Centro Bilingue de San Miguel, a new concept in Spanish Language Learning
Our Staff
Our staff is deeply committed to providing the best possible Spanish language educational experience for children. All teachers in our Child and Adolescent program are university educated with a specialty in child education. In each classroom two assistants are provided to offer support to the teaching staff to all our students.
We have a record of innovation, creativity, and high standards that is recognized and supported by the community. Through constant professional development, ongoing research, and extensive efforts in planning, we have created a well-rounded Spanish program designed to meet the needs of all our diverse students.
The aim of the school is to introduce the students to a new language and culture in a welcoming and friendly environment.
Centro Bilingue provides a unique atmosphere where beginners, with no prior experience, are able to learn Spanish from scratch and those on intermediate or advanced levels can further develop and improve their skills. Small classes and a friendly atmosphere make Centro Bilingue a natural choice for many people from many countries.
At our school we believe that language and culture are inseparable, and for this reason our programs provide a linguistic and cultural experience. Our programs combine language and study with an exploration of Mexican culture, history, tradition, cooking, dance, as well as field trips and cultural excursions in or around San Miguel de Allende.
History and Philosophy
Our school was established in 1998 by San Miguel native and professional teacher Sara Hernandez Murillo. "Maestra Sara" has over 25 years of teaching and school administration experience.
After working in Spanish schools for many years, Ms. Murillo had the conviction that it is crucial to break barriers between cultures through languages so we can understand, communicate, and appreciate the thoughts of others in our increasingly multicultural world.
All school programs were developed implementing the Total Physical Response (TPR) system of education, developed by James Asher, PhD, an American professor of psychology. TPR theory asserts that memory is enhanced through association of physical movement and activities. As such, Centro Bilingue de San Miguel was created as a school where students could learn Spanish and English, and touch the culture and traditions of each language through varied activities and field trips.
Our Mission
Centro Bilingue de San Miguel seeks to provide students of all languages with a personalized learning experience, combining strong language foundations with exposure to the rich cultures from which they come. Our education introduces students to a different cultural environment through activities and interactions that foster communicative and cognitive skill development. Our goal is to provide a motivating environment through challenging and responsive activities.
Teaching Methods
Classes concentrate on four essential areas of language acquisition: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Students use books, audiotapes, video and dialogues to enhance their learning. Field trips and cultural excursions away from the school environment provide direct contact with the rich culture that San Miguel and Mexico has to offer. With no more than six students in each class, everyone is ensured personal attention at all times.
Location
Centro Bilingue de San Miguel is situated in the Historical "Centro" of San Miguel de Allende in the Colonial Heartland of Mexico. We are located in a 17th century typical Mexican hacienda. Classrooms are arranged around a charming open air courtyard.
Our School has plenty of classroom space and a well trained professional staff of native Spanish speaking teachers.
