ADULT SPANISH PROGRAMS 2008

Thank you for asking about our programs.  At Centro Bilingue de San Miguel we strongly believe that language and culture are inseparable, and therefore, we have created programs that integrate exposure to both of these important aspects of learning.

While the number of students and programs we offer continues to grow our core philosophy remains the same:  to provide each student with a personalized learning experience combining a strong foundation in Spanish with exposure to the richness of Mexican Culture.

In our Intensive Spanish Program for Adults, students quickñly develop vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, grammar and conversational skills. They hone these skills through a variety of other activities including field trips, cooking and dance.

Our Extended afternoon program allows students to continue their exploration of language and culture through participation in afternoon activities including cooking, dance and music, among the others.  We find that students learn a great deal of Spanish while participating in cooking Chiles Rellenos, learning Mexican Folk songs or by chatting with our Mexican students, staff, family and friends.

Our school also offers students and their families the exciting opportunity to participate in our Volunteer Orphanage Outreach Program.  Through this program, children, adolescents and their families are able to reach out to the community through organized visits to and with several of San Miguel de Allende’s local orphanage populations.

At Centro Bilingue de San Miguel our programs have been carefully designed to create the incentive, opportunity and warm environment, for children and adolescents to learn Spanish in the most fruitful way possible, while making great use of what may be a limited amount of time with us. Our academic material is in-depth and up to date using the latest educational tools through conversation, improvisation, discussions, creative games, music, and other cultural exchanges.

We are happy to help coordinate babysitting through Centro Bilingue de San Miguel's Babysitting Services so that our parents can also enjoy San Miguel's language and culture!

San Miguel de Allende and Centro Bilingue de San Miguel is a great choice for students of all ages to learn Spanish, share our Mexican culture, and spend an unforgettable vacation. We hope you can join us!

Sincerely

Sara Hernandez Murillo

Founder and Director

Centro Bilingue de San Miguel

OUR MISSION:

Centro Bilingue de San Miguel seeks to provide students of all languages with a personalized learning experience, combining strong language foundations with exposure to the rich cultures from which they come. Our education introduces students to a different cultural environment through activities and interactions that foster communicative and cognitive skill development.  Our goal is to provide a motivating environment through challenging and responsive activities.

HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY:

Centro Bilingue de San Miguel was established in 1998 by a professional teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience. After working in Spanish schools for many years, Ms. Murillo had the conviction that it is crucial to break barriers between cultures through languages so we can understand, communicate, and appreciate the thoughts of others in our increasingly multicultural world.

All school programs were developed implementing the Total Physical Response (TPR) system of education, developed by James Asher, PhD, an American professor of psychology. TPR theory asserts that memory is enhanced through association of physical movement and activities. As such, Centro Bilingue de San Miguel was created as a school where students could learn Spanish and English, and touch the culture and traditions of each language through varied activities and field trips.

OUR PROGRAMS:

Our programs are designed to ensure that you will dramatically improve your Spanish. The intensive nature of the courses, the modern curriculum and the latest teaching methodology, the experience of the teachers, and the friendly, supportive environment of the classroom help students to make rapid progress. We offer small class sizes with an average of three students and a maximum of six students, giving you personalized attention and the chance to learn Spanish quickly.

Classes at all levels concentrate on the four essential areas of language acquisition:

  1. Speaking
  2. Listening
  3. Comprehension
  4. Reading
  5. Writing

The curriculum is designed with particular emphasis on developing skills and confidence and does so through the introduction of new structures and vocabulary, and building an existing knowledge.

Classes are taught in Spanish by native teachers. Small class sizes ensure that students receive personal attention and intensive interaction with instructors.

CLASSES INCORPORATE:

    1. Materials and activities that reflect real-life situations.
    2. Interaction and learning exchange among students and native speakers.
    3. Role-playing and dramatization.
    4. Activities that integrate reading, speaking, listening and writing.

Centro Bilingue de San Miguel welcomes everybody who has a sincere desire to learn Spanish, regardless of age, religious or social background.
